I know it's only about 3 miles but I am so pleased with myself. I set myself a goal back in March and I did it. Something for myself that also will help others. It's sad but I've worn my medal since getting home ;-)

Race for Life a success!
Today was the big race day. My friend and I decided we fell into the 'joggers' category (not intending to walk, not fast enough to say we're 'runners') and joined in the en-masse aerobics warm up. 6000 women all joined together in a field intending to raise money for Cancer Research UK, jumping up and down with numbers pinned to their chests. And then we were off! About 2km in (out of the 5km) I realised that no matter how much I ignored it that stitch under my ribs was not going to go away. Boy was it painful. I had to psyche myself up to take a deep breath as it hurt so much. I never got a stitch during any of my training so didn't really know what to do apart from slow to a walk, but my running partner kept me going and I was not going to give in. The km markers kept passing and I kept going. Before I knew it we'd passed the 4km and the end was near. We spotted our personal cheerleaders (both husbands plus our children), waved as we ran past, and crossed the finish line at 37m52s.
I know it's only about 3 miles but I am so pleased with myself. I set myself a goal back in March and I did it. Something for myself that also will help others. It's sad but I've worn my medal since getting home ;-)

Managers are idiots
My top-boss was working the late shift today, that means he stays until 515pm instead of 5pm, and has a technician and assistant to help out. It really pisses me off when he sits in his office even when its 510pm and there are 3 of us pharmacists running around - staying past when we should be there - finishing up all the queries and last minute items. ARRGHH! And I have to work with him tomorrow morning for 3 hours. Joy.
Even after the general election yesterday there is no clear winner, we have a hung parliament for the first time since 1974. It's been an interesting few weeks, learning a bit more about politics. Which still isn't much as I knew practically nothing before. I've found the BBC election webpages very informative, who knew that someday I'd actually have an interest in politics...
Managed to get out for a run after work again tonight as hubby is on day shift, twice in one week! Go me! Hoping to go again on sunday before he goes in for an afternoon shift too. I didn't think it would get easier yet but tonight I wasn't struggling so much. And I was beginning to enjoy it too - very strange ;-)

Perfect house we can't afford..
We went to see the Perfect House. It was fabulous. But needed lots of tlc to bring it up to a decent standard, and with it being at the top of our budget already we;d then have no money to spend on paint and carpet! Oh the possibilities of it though...sob...
After trying every type of potato with Poppy we've now discovered she seems to really enjoy rice and pasta. So lots of spaghetti bolognese and chicken curry to come.
Managed to finally get out for a run monday evening, after 2 weeks of being ill. Went back to week 2 of the training schedule, which it turns out I'd misread the first time I did it, so it was much harder! 2 mins running to 1 minute walking, not the other way around. My legs are still a bit sore today and I'm pretty tired tonight, so hope I get time to go out before hubby goes to work tomorrow afternoon. Also need to actualy register for the race! Then I definitely can't get out of it ;-)

Spoon fed in nursery-what a surprise!
Yes, that's right, Poppy was fed fish pie for lunch in nursery. Little minx. Won't take anything from a spoon for us apart from yoghurt. AND when i picked her up at 1230 she was just waking up from a nap in a bouncer chair in the main baby room. At home she won't sleep in the dark in the cot sometimes! At least she's being easy for them though, it would be awful if she wouldn't eat or sleep and was really miserable.
Got some stuff for work in my shopping trip. Shopping for work clothes is no where near exciting as normal shopping, and I've been reminded just how difficult it is for me to find smart trousers in my leg length. In the end I got a pair of brown linen from Next Petite which aren't really smart but will be ok, a pair of navy smart in M&S that I'll have to shorten, and pair of slim fit black in New Look that again are casual. Hopefully with a smartish top they'll be ok. Got a few tee-shirts that I'll smarten up with a corsage and a nautical knitted top. That'll do. It's a change anyway.
To try and keep me motivated with the training I got a pair of running leggings and a top, ones with stay-dry technology (!) as I find it really hot in my old scabby jogging bottoms. Tried on a lovely Adidas running jacket but resisted, perhaps I'll have a look online to see if I can find a bargainous one.

Wine and a curly wurly
This is my evening tonight as hubby is getting up with Poppy tomorrow. I really should go take a shower, haven't had a chance due to Poppy being stuck to me, but decided that could wait until the morning when this was the other option.
Watching a programme about Eddie Izzard doing the marathons for Sport Relief. It is an immense feat. His toenail was hanging off, ewww. It is amazing really what he has done.
Poppy still has the diarrhoea, tried out some medicine one of my pharmacist friends recommended so we'll see how she is in the morning. It's been a little better today and she has eaten twice. As tomorrow is Friday though I think perhaps another phonecall to the GP is in order just to check out how long these things can last. Also another friend has suggested probiotic yoghurts so hubby will be down the shop first thing tomorrow!
Downloaded the training plan for the Race for Life earlier, I'm doing it with two friends and we're hoping to jog it. It looks ok, based on interval training and building up the endurance. Hope to start perhaps next week, got plenty of time as it's not until July, but want to get into it asap as knowing me I'll stop for whatever reason and end up having to restart the programme at least once ;-)
Some photos of the lovely cuddles we've been having while she's been ill
