More antibiotics

Another trip to yet another GP has resulted in a different antibiotic for week, a different antibacterial cream and instructions to use the steroid cream also. So Poppy can't go into nursery today AGAIN. Hubby's boss would only let him have a half day off despite me already having taken 2.5 days holiday off with her illness since I've come back to work and him none. He's coming home by 1230 for me to leave and go in to start at 1245. What a palaver. If only I had more spare holidays I would have just taken the day off as there are no other Pharmacist's off today. Instead I'm having to faff about taking lieu time I don't have and try to work it back. It'll mean now I'll have to work 2 saturday mornings just to get out of the minus lieu time I'm now in before I'm even positive again! Yikes. I suppose I'd better get used to this. Really need to look into taking dependency leave where I don't get paid but I can just use at any time. Don't want to forfeit my time off at xmas or my week next March just because Poppy's got a bloody rash.

Ilness strikes again

After one GP diagnosing a viral/warty skin condition last week over the weekend poor Poppy came out in what seems like a hundred spots that turned red and weepy. A second trip to a different GP ended in antibiotics that meant she can't go to nursery for 2 days, and a disagreement with the original diagnosis. So I'm off work today with her much to the delight of my boss, who is so short staffed she just sighed in despair when I explained I wouldn't be in. Plus a head cold meaning a very runny nose (making the spots on her nose VERY scabby) and teething making her chest wheezy. All this adds up to a miserable baby.

Plus my new treadmill arrived earlier and it's broken in the box.

Bad times.

Chest infection woes

After a temperature of 39 degrees after her afternoon nap yesterday we ended up at the GP and then at the local paediatric department of the hospital. After much too-ing and fro-ing, 10 puffs of salbutamol via a spacer welded to the face of a red-faced screaming Poppy, a chest x-ray and a cursory poke at the offered supper before refusing to eat anything, we left clutching a bottle of amoxicillin. Home at last about 830pm, and thanking the heavens that we could come home as there was no way Poppy was going to sleep in a room with Winnie the Pooh on the wall facing the cot and a serious lack of blackout blinds.

Our trip to Cardiff for hubby's laser eye surgery was a success, all went to plan, except the nightmare trip home where there not one but two accidents on the M4. Poor hubby was almost jumping out of the car window in order to distract himself from the intense burning and itching which is the immediate aftermath to the surgery. Apparently like a serious case of eye-burn when you peel onions. But which has lasted about 5 hours and you can't make it stop or touch your eyes. Rather him than me. Can't wait to see him tonight when we have to tape the eye guards to his face so that he can't scratch his eyes in his sleep!

More illness - can you believe it??

But me this time. After diarrhoea all afternoon and feeling queasy my evening then involved a panicked phonecall to hubby to come home from work NOW as i was unable to breathe with the stomach pain, and then a further tearful call to the ambulance service to please HELP ME. And then a trip to hospital after gas and air to enable me to move off all fours, stand, and get to the ambulance, and a shot of morphine to stop me shallow breathing and curling into a ball. Luckily the morphine sorted me out and I could go home after a few hours and some blood tests.

But man I was scared. I honestly thought at the point where I was deciding if I needed an ambulance that perhaps I might die. That Poppy would be left without a mummy. That's what made my mind up about needing help, if it turned out I was being a wimp then so be it, but if I had appendicitis or an ectopic pregnancy then I definitely needed medical attention. Turned out it was probably severe stomach cramps from gastroenteritis but by god did it hurt.

Poppy and I actually managed to make it to a birthday party today hurray!! The little girl who was in special care baby unit with Poppy when she was born turned 1 today. Poppy lasted surprisingly well seeing as she's had only car-sleep today, we lasted an hour or so and had some party food. I think she gets a bit overwhelmed with all the noise and heat too as the room was SO full of people and there was no space to move really. And Poppy does like to move quite a lot. When we got home she was fine and in a great mood again, I even had a headache after it so no wonder she got grouchy.

The Birthday Party in now in 2 days!! Hubby's family are arriving tomorrow lunchtime, we then need to go food shopping for party food in the afternoon and do all the jobs like blowing up balloons and sorting out paper plates and napkins etc. After being a bit squashed in the party room today I am glad I decided to have her party where I did, there's loads of room and lots for the kids to do. Speaking of the party, I need to go and print off my super-organised list of things to remember to take to the supermarket tomorrow. And then get some sleep. yawn.

Bad nights sleep

Poppy was awake between 345am and 515am this morning! arrghhh. ended up with her on my lap on the rocking chair and practically falling asleep myself. if only i'd had a pillow i think i'd have been gone. poor hubby then had to get up at 555am for work, he's text and he's falling asleep on his feet. super-early night tonight for us both i think.

Not sure about going swimming today with Poppy's cough. I've always taken her before if she's had a cold and she's been fine, so I will probably go, and it always cheers her up as she loves it so much.

Snotty noses

Aren't children with a cold just so pitiful? Bless Poppy, with her green snot and red eyes and moaning. One day, when the cold is over, all the teeth are through, and we have the guts, we're going to have to do some sort of controlled crying. Each nap and even bedtime now involves staying with her until she's asleep, plus or minus the pinning down and shh-ing. Where it used to involve singing twinkle twinkle, putting on the lullaby cd, and walking out. Sometimes going back in to put dummy back in etc but certainly not 45 mins of trying not to lean on the creaky floorboard or breathe too loud.

Just watched this weeks episode of Gray's Anatomy. How can they fire Izzy??? Even though she did almost kill that kidney lady.. Now onto Brothers & Sisters but not sure I'll get to the end before my bed calls.

Bleurghh

I caught the stomach bug and by tuesday afternoon was sick as a dog, then hubby joined in the early hours of wednesday morning. Thank god my mum was able to take two days off work to take Poppy for us as there was no way we could have coped with both of us throwing up & running to the bathroom. Yuck.

It seems to be over now, we picked Poppy up earlier from mums. Just written out all the invitations for her birthday party, hope we get lots of kids coming as it's a pretty big room just for two or three children! As it's Easter Sunday i'm a bit worried but hopefully if I get the invites out early enough people will have time to make plans. Now just got to plan the food and decorations.

Have got my nephews christening in two weeks time in Somerset, we are godparents to J who is 3. Going to try and get a personal shopper appointment in Debenhams for next week for an outfit, a friend did it and took her son as you get a private fitting room so hoping I can take toys and leave her crawl about while I try some stuff on. Worth a go anyway as it's pretty much impossible going on my own otherwise and hubby not got much time off now before the day. Also it sounds much easier sitting about while someone brings lots of clothes to you!
